  • There have been political demonstrations in the capital island of Malé, and on some non-resort islands. See Demonstrations.

  • There is no British Embassy or Consulate in Maldives. If you need consular assistance you should contact the British High Commission in Sri Lanka. A consular correspondent in the capital, Malé can liaise with the British High Commission in Sri Lanka in emergencies.
  • There is a general threat from terrorism. See Terrorism.

  • Most visits to Maldives are trouble free. The most common problems faced by visiting British nationals are lost and stolen passports, and swimming and diving related accidents.

  • Petty crime occurs. Take care of your valuables and other personal possessions. See Crime.

  • Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before you travel.
