  • The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to slum districts of Port-au-Prince, including Carrefour, Cite Soleil, Martissant and Bel Air.

  • You should take great care due to the risk of criminal activity throughout the country. In Port-au-Prince there is a growing problem of kidnapping. Take professional security advice and make arrangements for your security throughout your stay. See Crime

  • There is a low threat from terrorism. See Terrorism.

  • There has been an increase in cases of cholera. See Health.

  • There is no British Embassy in Haiti. If you need consular assistance you should contact the British Honorary Consul (telephone: 509 3744 6371) or the British Embassy in Santo Domingo.

  • Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before you travel.
