  • On 19 February the Bulgarian Government tendered its resignation. However, protests are set to continue across Bulgaria. There have been some violent incidents in Sofia. As more protests are planned British nationals should avoid large crowds, notably around Eagles’ Bridge and the Parliament in Sofia and follow local media and the advice of the local authorities.

  • All railway connections between Greece and Bulgaria have been suspended for an indefinite period.

  • There is an underlying threat from terrorism. See Terrorism

  • Be aware of pickpockets in city centres and tourist resorts especially in crowded areas e.g. buses, trains and busy streets. Keep valuables in a hotel safe if possible. See Crime

  • Carry a copy of the information pages of your passport at all times as proof of identity.

  • Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before you travel.
